January 2025,
Joy is a six-year-old girl, who comes from a family of four children. Her mother is a widow and supports her family with casual jobs such as fetching wood. Joy’s mother is very much in support of education. She has managed to put all three of her school-age children into schools. Unfortunately, the only primary school that she can afford for Joy is more than six kilometers away from their home. The family has no car and no money for transport. It is a dangerous trip for Joy. Her mother must walk her every day. This takes time away from her mother to earn money for the family’s survival. Even when Joy’s mother can work full time it is a struggle to keep the children in school. She is afraid that she will have to take Joy out of school. She reached out to the local MGEF-Kajiado Board members for assistance. Joy was accepted in January of 2025. Joy and her mother are very happy that she will be able to attend a nice primary school that is closer to home and much safer.
