January 2024
Jemima is a 14 year old girl, who comes from a family of six children. Her father is unemployed and her mother passed away when she was eleven years old, When her mother passed, Jemima’s eldest sister dropped out of school to take care of her five siblings, and her brother also dropped out to work casual jobs to help the family survive. Jemima missed two terms that school year. Finally a local school gave her a scholarship through Class 8. She does very well in school and received a high score on her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam. She was then accepted to a good secondary school, but her family was unable to afford the school fees. The local MGEF board member was alerted to Jemima’s situation and helped her fill out an MGEF application. Jemima was awarded a scholarship in January 2024, and is now happy to be attending Term 1 of Form 1 (9th grade). She is very excited to be able to continue her education with no worries of being sent home due to lack of school fees.
