Gladys and her four siblings are orphans. Her father passed away in 2014. His brothers wanted his land so he chased the children and their mother off of the property. Gladys’s mother struggled to keep the children fed. She was taken ill in 2019 and passed away in December of 2020. Gladys’s mother’s younger brother had mercy on the five children and brought them into his two room mud hut with his own family. He did his best to send them all to school. Gladys did very well in primary school and scored high marks on her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam. She was accepted into a good secondary school, but her uncle could not afford the school fees. A local MGEF board member was informed about Gladys and immediately went into action. Gladys was accepted into the MGEF Scholarship Program January 2024, and is now attended classes at Kathiani Girls Secondary School. She is so happy to be continuing with her dream of an education.
