Everline is a 15 year old girl, who comes from a family of nine children. Everline ran away from her home to the local police station, because her father was going to marry her to someone against her will. Of Everline’s seven sisters, six have been married off, leaving just herself and her younger sister unmarried. Everline knew what her future would be if she didn’t run away. Everline’s mother has left the house also, because her husband beat her when he learned that Everline had fled. At this point Everline’s father has also run away, because the police are looking for him.
The police officer brought Everline to the MGEF office and asked if she could fill out an application. MGEF immediately accepted her into our Scholarship Program. Everline is so happy and relieved to be able to go to school to pursue her dream of an education and to have escaped an unwanted marriage, which would have been a life of poverty and hard labor.
