Damaris is a ten-year-old girl who comes from a polygamist family of nine children. Her father had two wives. Damaris’s mother had five children and the second wife had four. Damaris’s father died before she was born. She is the youngest child in the family. The two mothers do casual jobs such as fetching firewood and washing clothes for people. The mothers have held fundraisers to assist with school fees, but they are no longer successful with this. Damaris’s teacher has done a lot to help her stay in school, such as providing her with a uniform. A local MGEF board member was contacted, and she met with Damaris’s family to help them fill out her application. Damaris was accepted into the MGEF Scholarship program in January 2025. She is very excited about returning to school without fear of being sent home due to lack of school fees.
