January 2025
Grace is a ten-year-old girl with five siblings. Both of her parents are illiterate, and they struggle daily to put food on the table. They sell coal for a living at a local marketplace. The family has three goats and no cows. Only one of the goats is able to produce milk for the family. All of their school-aged children are in and out of school due to lack of school fees. Grace was unable to attend classes because her parents were unable to pay for her books. She didn’t receive her report card last year because she did not have fees to pay for the assessment book. Grace loves school but is behind because she doesn’t have the materials needed to do her work, and is constantly being sent home due to lack of school fees. The local MGEF board member was informed of Grace’s situation. She met with the family and helped them fill out her application. Grace was accepted into the MGEF Scholarship program in January 2025. She is very excited to be able to go to school with all of her books and supplies that she needs to help her succeed.
