January 2019
Rachel is a very smart little seven year old girl, who comes from a family of five children. Her father is a drunk and spends most of the little money he makes on alcohol. Rachel’s father’s alcoholism causes the family great grief. He often gets into trouble and does not return home until late at night, leaving his wife and children outside in the cold.
Rachel’s mother and her ten year old brother work at a local farm to put food on the table. Rachel’s mother tries to send her children to school, but cannot afford the school fees so the children are often sent home.
Rachel ran away from home to her blind grandmothers house. Her grandmother would listen to her talk every day about her dream to go to school. Rachel told her that she would someday graduate from a big university and get a good job. She would then take care of her whole family. Her grandmother came to MGEF to ask for assistance. Rachel was accepted into the Scholarship Program in January 2019. She is so excited to start her dream of an education.
