Margaret is a 17 year old girl, who comes from a family of eight children. Her father is a farmer and her mother is a housewife. Due to the severe drought, the family struggles to survive. Margaret’s older sister was married off at age 16 and Margaret knew she was next. This year there was only enough money to send Margaret or her other sister to secondary school. Margaret’s father chose her other sister, leaving Margaret a target for early marriage. Her aunt insists that Margaret be married off. Margaret left home and contacted the MGEF board member in her division. The board member met with Margaret and had her fill out an application. She was accepted to MGEF’s Scholarship program in January of 2023, and joined Form 1 of secondary school. Margaret is very happy to be able to continue her education.
