Dorcas is an 12 year old girl, who comes from a family of six children. The family is very poor and struggles to put food on the table. Her father only has two cows and her mother sells coal and firewood. Dorcas is the eldest child, and the only one in the family to attend school. Unfortunately, she is often required to stay home to take care of her younger siblings. This has made it very hard for her to keep up with her studies. Her father does not support her going to school, even though the local chief tells him that it is his duty to send his children to school. Her father wants to marry her off as a gift to his 50 year old friend. The local board member was contacted and she immediately helped Dorcas fill out an application. Dorcas was accepted in the MGEF Scholarship Program and will start Term 1 in July 2021. Now Dorcas can concentrate on her studies and pursue her dream of becoming a lawyer.
