Brenda is 14 year old girl, who has two sisters. She does not know who her father is. Her mother depends on casual labor jobs to support the girls. Her grandparents had played a major role in supporting the education of the three girls, but with the ongoing draught, they have lost most of their livestock and income. Now it is up to Brenda’s mother. Covid has changed the school schedule by shortening the breaks, which leaves little time for her mother to save enough money to pay the school fees. This has caused Brenda to be sent home for lack of school fees many times. Her school work has suffered. The local MGEF Board member heard of the families struggle. Brenda filled out an application and was accepted into the MGEF Scholarship Program for Term 1 of 2022. She is excited to be able to concentrate on her studies and not worry about being sent home due to lack of school fees.
