Nelly is a 13 year old girl, who comes from polygamist family consisting of two wives and 17 children. Nelly’s mother is the second wife. She and her children are neglected by Nelly’s father. Two of her sisters were married off at an early age, and there is the fear that Nelly might soon suffer the same fate. She is living with her grandmother due to lack of food at home. Nelly is very hard working and loves to learn. Her mother knew she would not be able to continue to send her to school and she looked for assistance. She took Nelly to a local MGEF board member and filled out an application. MGEF was happy to accept her. She now can go to school without the fear of being sent home and married to an older man.
