Celestine is a 16 year old girl that comes from a polygamist family of four wives and 18 children. Her father is a farmer, but due to the draught, he is not able to provide for the family. Celestine does very well in school, but the family cannot afford her school fees. The head teacher kept her in school as long as she could, but Celestine was not going to be able to return for Term 2 after the pandemic lockdown, due to her school fee balance. One of her step sister was married off at 15. Celestine fears she will be next. The local MGEF Board member was contacted about Celestine. She helped Celestine fill out the application and she brought it to the MGEF-Kajiado office. Celestine was accepted to the MGEF Scholarship program in January 2021. She can now concentrate on her studies without worrying about being sent home due to lack of school fees.
